Balmain, the French luxury fashion house, and Barbie, the ultimate fashion doll manufactured by the American toy company Mattel, are collaborating on a new initiative to expand the fashion frontier.The well-known brands announced in a press release they are going to release three "one-of-a-kind" non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of distinctive Barbie and Ken avatars. The Barbie x Balmain NFTs will be available through Mattel Creations, via an online auction hosted on mintNFT.

Richard Dickson, President of Mattel, says the initiative opens "a new chapter in the legacy of the toy and fashion industries." It's unclear though on what blockchain network the NFTs are stored and whether they are compatible with other marketplaces.

The promotion was conceptualized by Charlotte Stockdale and Katie Lyall and photographed by Norbert Schoerner. The digital collectibles of the fashion dolls are scheduled for sale on January 11, 2022.
