The market share of play-to-earn (P2E) games will be huge in the coming five years as 90% of games will choose blockchain technology, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian told the Where it Happens podcast.

Ohanian, who has been a vocal supporter of the crypto industry since 2018, said the P2E gaming model will allow gamers to value their time properly:

In five years, you will actually value your time properly, and instead of being harvested for advertisements, or being fleeced for dollars to buy stupid hammers you don’t actually own, you will be playing some on-chain equivalent game that will be just as fun, but you’ll actually earn value and you will be the harvester.

The Reddit co-founder didn't clarify what might be the next big thing for the adoption but believes that "90% of people will not play a video game unless they are being properly valued for that time."

Ohanian is doing their best to match their words with action. In December 2021, he backed a $200 million initiative focused on projects developing “the future of social media and Web3.0.” The initiative — which is mainly aimed at the Polygon ecosystem — will support not only decentralized social media but also blockchain games.
